Du named fellow of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers

Jenny Du

Bagley College of Engineering faculty member Qian (Jenny) Du has been named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Du joins the newly elevated class of 2018 IEEE fellows for her contributions to hyperspectral data processing, a remote sensing technology with potential to advance earth observation.

IEEE fellows are chosen from an international pool of candidates working in both academia and industry and are honored annually based upon their contributions and accomplishments to specific IEEE fields of interest. The honorees join a distinguished fellow program that has existed for over 100 years, first established by IEEE in 1914.

“I am extremely honored to receive this recognition and would like to thank my students and collaborators for their contributions,” Du said. “I am also grateful to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, the Bagley College of Engineering, and Mississippi State University for providing me an excellent research environment for my career development.

“I consider this recognition as a new start to my career going forward,” Du said. “While continuing the development of the next wave of leading edge research, I wish to contribute more to the MSU community and my professional societies such as IEEE and SPIE in education and services.”

The Bagley faculty member adds the honor to an existing fellow status with the International Society for Optics and Photonics. Du also previously served as the editor-in-chief of the monthly IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing (JSTARS).

Since joining the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering faculty in 2004, Du has been honored with MSU Faculty Research, Outstanding Researcher, Hearin Faculty Excellence and Schilling Teaching awards. She holds both a master’s and doctoral degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Beijing Institute of Technology, all in electrical engineering.

IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.
