Class, parking changes for Thursday football game

In anticipation of the very large number of fans and visitors expected for this week's nationally-televised football game against LSU, several adjustments have been made on campus.

Scheduling changes announced include:

--An extra day has been added to the academic schedule to accommodate cancellation of all classes on the Starkville campus Thursday. Classes will meet as scheduled Friday, Sept. 16.

--Non-essential staff will be dismissed at noon Thursday, Sept. 15. Staff members are encouraged to check with supervisors about their status.

--Gameday events begin the prior evening with the Student Association-sponsored Cowbell Yell at 10 p.m. in Davis Wade Stadium. Parking changes will be required to accommodate that event, as well as the influx of thousands of fans prior to the 7 p.m. televised game against LSU Thursday.

Parking changes announced include:

--Beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, parking adjacent to Newell-Grissom will be closed (Gameday Lot No. 5).

--Beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, parking on Lee Boulevard between Davis Wade Stadium and George Perry Street will be prohibited to the metered spaces on West Lee Boulevard, which will be marked as reserved.

--Beginning at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, two parking lots behind Dorman Hall immediately across from Thompson Hall (Gameday lots Nos. 11 and 13) will be closed.

--Gameday parking will be in effect for students Thursday, Sept. 15.

--Due to classes being canceled Thursday, daily shuttles will not run. They will be preparing for Game Day Shuttle routes.

Thursday parking for faculty and staff

--Faculty and staff reporting to work Thursday will be permitted to park until noon in their regular parking lots, unless noted in the exceptions above. Gameday parking will go into effect at noon.

--Essential personnel who must work should relocate their vehicles to game working parking behind the IED building or to the east side of Allen Hall.

--Owners of vehicles not moved by noon will be contacted and asked to relocate their vehicles. Within a reasonable time, those not already moved will be relocated to the back of the parking lot behind the IED building.

University golf carts/utility vehicles

All university golf carts/utility vehicles must be permitted through Parking Operations. Only those having official gameday business should be used during gameday activities, and access to some streets may be restricted.
