Community-Engaged Learning Fellows program now taking applications

Mississippi State University's inaugural Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) Fellows program is now taking applications. This three-week program has been created to support instructional faculty and staff in integrating community-engaged learning into their formal or non-formal teaching.

Sponsored by the Center for Community-Engaged Learning and the Center for Teaching and Learning, CEL Fellows will learn community-engaged learning theory, course design and pedagogy. Community-engaged learning is a high impact educational practice that improves student engagement, learning and development, social responsibility and active citizenship.

The CEL Fellows program will start on May 7, meet Monday-Thursday from 9:30-11:30 a.m., and conclude on May 24. Participants will receive a $1,000 stipend, peer support and one-on-one assistance to design a new community-engaged learning course or modify an existing course.

The program application and guidelines are online at www.servicelearning.msstate.edu/faculty/workshops. The deadline to apply is Feb. 23, 2018.
