First Lyceum event to celebrate ‘lads from Liverpool’

“Cellophane Flowers: A Beatles Tribute” will kick off MSU’s 2017-18 Lyceum Series with a 7 p.m. performance in Lee Hall on Tuesday.

Mississippi State’s long-running performing arts program begins the 2017-18 season Tuesday [Sept. 12] with “Cellophane Flowers: A Beatles Tribute.”

The two-hour concert launching the university’s Lyceum Series is a reinterpretation of Fab Four fan favorites. The title comes from “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” the iconic hit single on “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band,” their groundbreaking album now celebrating its 50th anniversary.

The New York-based group’s show will include behind-the-scenes anecdotes about John, Paul, George and Ringo as it covers both classical hits and others never performed live. Jeff Lubin is featured on acoustic guitar and vocals, backed by an all-female string quartet in an unplugged acoustic style.

As with the four other Lyceum events this school year, the program begins at 7 p.m. in Bettersworth Auditorium of historic Lee Hall.

Individual tickets are $25 each; $20 for MSU employees and senior citizens; $10 for children. Purchases may be made online at events.msstate.edu.
