Perry named football director of player development

Jay Perry

Jay Perry, a Starkville native and Mississippi State graduate, has been named director of player development for the Bulldog football program, head coach Dan Mullen announced last Friday [Aug 18].

Perry will serve as an administrative resource for MSU football student-athletes in all phases of their development. Among his chief responsibilities, he will serve as a liaison with the Athletic Department's life skills and mentor programs as well as a liaison for NFL scouts.

"Jay is someone our players will respect tremendously," Mullen said. "We want to be proactive in helping our players develop for life after football. Jay brings a wealth of knowledge to this area and will help us in all facets of the program."

Perry replaces Rockey Felker, who retired this summer after over 20 years of service to his alma mater.

"I am very appreciative of Coach Mullen for this unbelievable opportunity," Perry said. "I am excited to work alongside an outstanding group of coaches and staff, but I am most fired up to work with our student-athletes. We have a great group of young men that put in tremendous effort every day. I look forward to helping develop the complete player, especially off the field and with the transition to life after football."

Perry came to MSU after spending 20 years in the legal profession, much of which was spent advising student-athletes, coaches and administrators in intercollegiate athletics.

Perry also serves as the sideline reporter for Bulldog football games and previously served as an SEC Network+ play-by-play and color analyst for various MSU sports.

A 1994 graduate of Mississippi State with a degree in communications, Perry went on to earn a law degree at the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1997.

Perry is married to the former Jamie Livingston of Tupelo. They have three sons, Jack, Banks and Larkin.
