Service DAWGS Day kicks off Tuesday

Mississippi State's Service DAWGS organization has designated Tuesday, Aug. 16 as a day to contribute to the Starkville community through various volunteer projects.

Service DAWGS hosts a campus-wide day of service that provides incoming freshmen, returning students, and university employees the opportunity to make new friends and help the community through a morning of projects. Volunteers get a free Service DAWGS t-shirt.

MSU needs faculty and staff members to consider contributing a small amount of time Tuesday to volunteer, and thereby make a lifelong impression on our incoming freshmen about the way MSU values community service.

Volunteers will be asked to help with registration of student volunteers, assist with serving lunch, or to serve as a site leader and work with a team of students at a community service site.

Breakfast in the Junction will kick off the day at 8:30 a.m., and participants are invited back to campus at the conclusion of their service for a celebratory barbecue lunch. Last year, more than 250 volunteers participated.

Volunteers may pre-register at www.mvc.msstate.edu/events.

Anyone interested may follow the group on Twitter at @ServiceDAWGS11.
