Twietmeyer addresses complexities of sports ethics

Gregg Twietmeyer

A Mississippi State kinesiology faculty member is helping future teachers, coaches, sports administrators and others gain a better appreciation for the complex subject of sports ethics.

Assistant professor Gregg J. Twietmeyer is the author of a just-released textbook titled “The Fundamentals of Sports Ethics.” Within its 264 pages, he introduces concepts sports philosophers often take for granted and about which many that are part of the game often struggle.

According to a release from Kendall Hunt Publishing, the eight-chapter course reader draws on various works of philosophy, as well as literature and journalism. Among chapter titles are “Good and Evil in Sports,” “Why Be Good?” and “How Do We Promote Ethical Behavior?”

Twietmeyer came to Starkville several years ago from Marshall University in West Virginia. While pursuing a doctorate at Pennsylvania State University, his research focused on the history and philosophy of sport.
