Applications sought for ORAU's Powe award

The Office of Research and Economic Development at Mississippi State is now accepting preproposals for the annual Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) Ralph E. Powe Jr. Faculty Enhancement Award.

The Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Awards provide seed money for research by junior faculty at ORAU member institutions. These awards are intended to enrich the research and professional growth of young faculty and result in new funding opportunities.

The ORAU portion of the award is $5,000, and ORED covers the required $5,000 match for a total one-year award of $10,000 to the faculty member.

Faculty members eligible for this award include full-time assistant professors within two years of their initial tenure track appointment -- 1/9/2015 through 1/9/2017 -- at the time of application at an ORAU member institution. If there is a question on eligibility, the ORAU Councilor at Mississippi State, Vice President for Research and Economic Development David Shaw, makes the final decision.

The deadline to submit preproposals to ORED is Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. This is a limited submission, and the university can submit two applications to ORAU for consideration.

Applications should be sent Teresa Gammill at tgammill@research.msstate.edu and copied to Jessica Northcutt at jnorthcutt@research.msstate.edu.

Additional details about the program are online at www.orau.org/university-partnerships/faculty-student-programs/powe/default.aspx.

Please note: The nomination letter from the applicant's dean or department head is very important when applications are being reviewed by ORAU. As a dean or department head who will be providing the nomination letter, please write to the qualities of the candidate that ranks them above and beyond that which is represented on their abbreviated two-page resume.

Please contact Assistant Vice President for Research Teresa Gammill at tgammill@research.msstate.edu or (662) 325-3570 with any questions.
