Fellowship program seeks applicants

The Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP) is a programmatic partnership between the Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL) in Washington, DC, the John C. Stennis Institute of Government and Community Development, and the Office of Research and Economic Development at Mississippi State University. EPFP is the longest-running national Fellowship of its kind with over 300 annual Fellows across 17 states with over 8,500 alumni in all 50 states.

The Mississippi State cohort of EPFP will specifically work towards building the capacity of the institution to engage in research and outreach around rural education. The MSU EPFP cohort for the 2016-17 cohort year will connect participants to a deeper understanding of the linkage between rural education research, policy, and advocacy through a series of guest speakers, readings, field trips, and activities. Participants will develop a rural research agenda and build relationships leading to a greater role in rural education research and advocacy.

The MSU cohort of EPFP in 2016-2017 will consist of faculty, researchers, and staff who are committed to learning more about rural education contexts and policy and developing skills to contribute to rural education policy and research. The cohort will meet on campus one full day per month from September 2016 through April 2017, with the program culminating in the four-day trip to Washington, D.C.

Co-coordinators for the MSU cohort are Tyson Elbert, Research Associate and Director of the Education Policy Fellowship Program at the Stennis Institute for Government and Community Development (MS EPFP 07-08); Devon Brenner, Special Assistant to the Vice President of Research and Economic Development for Education Initiatives (MS EPFP 04-05); and Dana Franz, Associate Professor of Mathematics Education, Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education (MS EPFP 06-07).
