Brocato again honored for excellence

The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) has once again recognized its Mississippi State campus representative for superior service.

At a June reception in Vancouver, British Columbia, the organization honored John Brocato for both most professional members recruited and highest percentage faculty membership in the organization's Southeast section. He also tied for the most members recruited society-wide.

This is the fourth time the international organization has recognized Brocato. He is a three-time winner of its Most Outstanding Campus Representative Award.

"ASEE is the premier professional organization for those dedicated to improving engineering pedagogy," Brocato said. "Our long-standing involvement with ASEE is, I believe, one of the reasons for the Bagley College's excellence. I am deeply honored both to serve as our campus representative and to be recognized for my service."

Currently the BCoE has 78 ASEE members among its ranks. Many of these members have served in southeastern section and national-level leadership roles including Dean Sarah Rajala, a past president and Fellow of the organization.

Brocato joined the BCoE in 1999 and has served as its ASEE representative since 2004. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Mississippi State, which he uses to he help enhance the writing and speaking skills of engineering students through his position as coordinator of the college's technical communication program.

ASEE promotes excellence in engineering instruction, research, public service, and practice. It boasts more than 12,000 members from more than 400 engineering colleges and affiliates. The southeastern section encompasses nine states, including, Florida, Georgia and Virginia, as well as Puerto Rico. For more information about the society, visit www.asee.org.
