Fowler receives editorial award

James Fowler

A Mississippi State electrical and computer engineering professor received recognition for his hard work and dedication to an international journal.

James Fowler, an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing Journal, was one of three individuals to be named Outstanding Member of the Editorial Board.

Fowler said that he was honored to receive an award from the most prestigious journal in the field of image processing.

“There are 75 associate editors at the journal, and I know that most, if not all of them, are very, very hard working,” Fowler said. “To be recognized as one of three is special indeed.”

Being named as an outstanding member in the first year of the award came with a bonus of promoting the university, Fowler said.

“To be singled out is bringing even greater visibility to the college,” Fowler said. “This is important visibility because this is an international community of scholars who publish, review and edit for the journal.”

With a bachelor’s degree in computer and information science engineering, as well as both master’s and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering from Ohio State University, Fowler serves as the graduate program director for BCoE’s department of electrical and computer engineering. He also works with the MSU High Performance Computing Collaboratory as the associate director of the Distributed Analytics and Security Institute.
