Babski-Reeves named a director of BCPE

Kari Babski-Reeves

A BCoE faculty member will serve as a director of a national ergonomics certification board.

Kari Babski-Reeves, an associate professor in the industrial and systems engineering department, was elected as a director to the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics (BCPE).

“Members of the BCPE are some of the most well-known and talented ergonomists working toward improving quality of work life,” Babski-Reeves said. “It is truly an honor to be elected and to serve the ergonomics community in this manner.”

Serving a three-year term, Babski-Reeves will interact with leaders in the engineering field, gain perspective on work-sector perception and needs, and facilitate the growth and development of up and coming ergonomics issues. She will also work with other directors to maintain the integrity of the ergonomic practice while developing her own skills in ergonomics applications.

Babski-Reeves holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in industrial and systems engineering from Mississippi State University. Her projects have received more than $11 million in research funding from organizations such as FedEx, the U.S. Army, Hyundai, Honda, Toyota and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. She has served on several academic and professional committees and has published 80 refereed publications, 24 journal articles and 66 conference papers or abstracts.

The BCPE provides ergonomics certification to protect the public and its professionals by assuring standards of competency and advocating the value of certification. The organization develops and administers the tests and certifes individuals for the designations of Certified Professional Ergonomist, Certified Human Factors Professional and Certified User Experience Professional. The board also oversees the associate designations for these levels.
