Entergy Mississippi awards Economy Watch grant

A $25,000 grant from Entergy Mississippi Inc. is helping a Mississippi State-based magazine continue to inform state commerce and government leaders about economic issues.

Part of the New Orleans, La.-based Entergy Corp., the Magnolia State's unit of the integrated energy company recently announced its support for Economy Watch, a quarterly magazine of the university's College of Business that also is online at www.economywatch.msstate.edu.

Published since 2009 by the finance and economics department, Economy Watch presents economic data in a user-friendly manner throughout Mississippi and surrounding states. [For more, visit www.economywatch.msstate.edu]

"Entergy is committed to expanding the economy and creating jobs for Mississippians," said John Turner, Entergy Mississippi's economic development director. "Economy Watch is an important resource used by business to demonstrate positive economic trends and opportunities."

Louis Dawkins, interim dean of the business college, said the university greatly appreciates having Entergy as a partner in making the publication even better.

"The College of Business is committed to providing economic data to business people and residents of Mississippi and surrounding areas so they can have an informed perspective. This serves as a tool to help them make personal and business decisions," Dawkins said.

Engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations, Entergy Corp. owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity, and it is the second-largest nuclear generator in the United States. It delivers electricity to 2.7 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.
