Fountain named academy fellow

A Mississippi State University Extension Service nutritionist has been granted a fellowship by the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recognized Brent Fountain, associate Extension professor of human nutrition, for his commitment to the field of dietetics by naming him a fellow.

According to the academy, fellows are members who have lived up to the organization’s values of customer focus, integrity, innovation and social responsibility.

The academy has more than 75,000 members, including students and professionals in the field who have undergraduate and advanced degrees in nutrition and dietetics.

Fountain is a past president of the Mississippi Dietetic Association, which is now known as the Mississippi Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. He is one of eight certified sports dietetics specialists in Mississippi and holds certifications from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the International Olympic Committee and the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
