'A Conversation with the Kinseys' this week

Bernard, Shirley and Khalil Kinsey of Los Angeles will visit Mississippi State University this week for a special presentation on Thursday in Mitchell Memorial Library's John Grisham Room.

Owners of one of the world's largest private collections of African-American art, artifacts, documents and manuscripts will return to Mississippi State for a special presentation on Thursday [June 11].

Free to all, "A Conversation with the Kinseys" will begin at 7 p.m. in the third-floor John Grisham Room. Sid Salter, MSU's chief communications officer, will serve as moderator for the presentation.

Accompanied by their son Khalil, The Kinsey Collection owners Bernard and Shirley Kinsey will provide insight into their years of collecting and philanthropy, as well as discuss the significance of objects on display through June 20 in MSU's "African American Treasures" from The Kinsey Collection.

More than 2,300 people have viewed the MSU exhibition, which also has been featured at world-renowned locales including Walt Disney World and Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

In addition to MSU Libraries and African American Studies, the collection is made possible by Visit Mississippi, Greater Starkville Development Partnership, Mississippi Humanities Council and National Endowment for the Humanities.

Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in the exhibit do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities or the Mississippi Humanities Council.
