Herrington earns APR professional certification
A senior member of the Office of Public Affairs at Mississippi State University has earned a top professional designation.
Checky Herrington recently attained Accredited in Public Relations (APR) certification from the Universal Accreditation Board.
Accreditation sets standards of ethical practice and demonstrates a mastery of the public relations profession. He is one of 5,000 public relations professionals in the field to receive this designation.
Herrington, who holds a bachelor's degree in communication with an emphasis in marketing and public relations from MSU, develops and implements marketing initiatives that support the university's recruitment, growth and advancement goals. His responsibilities include management of brand research projects and monitoring of the school's overall marketing plan.
Prior to returning to his alma mater in his current role in February 2014, he served nearly 30 years as a marketing communications leader for Entergy Corporation, a Fortune 500 energy company serving 2.8 million electric and gas customers in the mid-South.
Before joining Entergy, Herrington served in the administration of Governor William Winter where he directed the media relations effort that contributed to the successful passage of Mississippi's 1982 Education Reform Act. He has also worked as a reporter with The Clarion-Ledger.
Herrington is past president of the International Association of Business Communicators. Other professional affiliations include the Public Relations Association of Mississippi, the Southern Public Relations Federation and the Mississippi Press Association.
