One of the most-accomplished Mississippi State golfers in program history is returning home as Noah Goldman has been named the Bulldogs’ assistant coach, head coach Clay Homan announced last week.

Goldman heads back to Starkville after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s programs at NCAA Division II Nova Southeastern.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to come back to Starkville and Mississippi State University as a coach after spending four fantastic years here as a player,” Goldman said. “I look forward to working with Coach Homan and helping coach these student-athletes to successful careers on and off the golf course.”

Last season he helped the men’s team finish second at the Division II national championship tournament and post Top 3 finishes in 10 of 12 events, including a win at the Armstrong Pirate Invitational.

On the women’s side, the 2014 Lady Sharks ended the spring slate No. 7 by GolfStat after wrapping the fall 26th. The squad qualified for an NCAA Regional and won the Lady Bucs Invitational.

In his first season at the school, he helped the men’s squad to a third-place showing at the NCAA Championship and a No. 1 ranking in Division II by GolfStat. The team claimed four team wins and six individual victories, including the South/Southeast Regional by 16 strokes.

The women’s squad also claimed the top spot in the GolfStat rankings before going on to take runner-up honors in Division II. The Lady Sharks won seven team titles, four individual championships and finished with a 123-8 record.

Goldman helped tutor six first-team All-Americans and 11 All-SSC members on both sides during his two seasons at the school.

He made the trek to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after spending a season as volunteer assistant coach at Samford. During that campaign he helped the Lady Bulldogs claim nine Top 10 showings in 11 events, including two tournament titles and five Top 5 finishes.

The Longwood, Fla., native played under Homan from 2005-09, helping MSU to a pair of NCAA Regional appearances and a spot in the 2008 NCAA Championship.

Goldman was also a standout in the classroom, earning GCAA Academic All-America honors and MSU’s nomination for the SEC Boyd McWhorter Post-Graduate Scholarship.

“I am thrilled to have Noah back at Mississippi State as our assistant coach. He brings a great deal of experience as a player, and he helped elevate Nova Southeastern into a national contender in his time there as an assistant coach,” Homan said.

“Noah was one of the top student-athletes to ever play at Mississippi State, and he knows what it takes to be an elite student and an elite athlete.”

He tied for the best regional finish ever by a Bulldog, taking eighth in the 2008 East Regional as he helped the squad to a fourth-place showing.

Goldman owns the second-most wins in program history with four, and his 73.84 career scoring average stands seventh in program annals.

After completing his heralded Bulldog career, he played on the Hooters Golf Tour and the Peach State Tour.
