Lyceum Series returns to historic Lee Hall

An Aug. 20 concert by country music legend Merle Haggard will kick off Mississippi State's 2014-15 Lyceum Series season in newly renovated Lee Hall.

All beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the historic university building's Bettersworth Auditorium, this year's other Lyceum events include:

-- Oct. 14, Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, a group of Russia's finest young string players whose high-energy performance will stay with listeners long after the last note is played.

-- Jan. 27, Black Violin, a classically trained viola and violin duo that fuse classical and hip-hop music.

-- Feb. 16, Aquila Theatre Company presentation of "The Tempest," believed to be William Shakespeare's final play. This performance will include a partnership with the campus-adjacent Veranda restaurant in which patrons may enjoy a special four-course meal prior to the show.

-- April 22, Russian National Ballet Theatre arrangement of the family classic "Sleeping Beauty."

Season-ticket renewal sales take place July 1-July 18. With the return of the full venue and reserved seating, season ticket holders again may reclaim seats reserved in the 2011-12 season.

From July 21-Aug. 1, new season ticket holders may begin making purchases. Individual tickets for each performance go on sale Aug. 4.

Except for the opening Merle Haggard concert, free MSU student tickets will be available prior to each performance.
