Funderburk's work on display in Ocean Springs

Works of a veteran Mississippi State University art professor are on display through April 30 at the Walter Anderson Museum of Art in Ocean Springs.
Titled "New Solar Myths: Paintings and Drawings by Brent Funderburk," the collection includes large pieces, as well as some watercolor and mixed media and several small charcoal sketches.
At the museum April 10, Funderburk will give a 6 p.m. illustrated presentation titled "Walter Anderson: A World Vision for Art, Nature and Man." The program will be filmed by Win Riley of New Orleans, a Public Broadcasting System documentary filmmaker.
Regular museum hours are 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday; 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults; $8 for seniors, students, AAA and military members; and $5 for children ages 5-15. Museum members and children ages 4 and under are free. Discounts are provided for group tours.
A North Carolina native, Funderburk has taught at Mississippi State since 1982. He is a former head of the art department that now is part of the university's College of Architecture, Art and Design.
For many years, the East Carolina University graduate has curated touring shows of the works of Walter Inglis Anderson (1903-1965), as well as given lectures on him at museums and universities throughout the country.
He long has credited the iconic Gulf Coast artist for influencing his teaching career. In MSU courses titled "Sea Earth Sky" and "Encounters," he has introduced students to Anderson's work and worldview by combining art and natural sciences in both classroom setting and Gulf Coast field trips.
"New Solar Myths" is Funderburk's 31st one-person show. He has exhibited nationally and internationally and was the official artist of the 2010 USA International Ballet Competition. Additional information on the artist is available at www.brentfunderburk.com.
