Starkville-MSU Symphony Christmas concert Dec. 3

The Starkville-Mississippi State University Symphony Orchestra will perform music of the season during a Dec. 3 concert at the city's First Baptist Church.

Free and open to all, the 7:30 p.m. program will feature works by such composers as Bach, Handel and Mozart. Audience members will be invited to join in singing the traditional concluding chorus of "Hallelujah!" from Handel's "Messiah."

Assistant professor Gary Packwood, MSU's choral activities director, will lead the orchestra and the State Singers.

Anthony B. Kirkland and Jessica Banks will perform popular arrangements, while Jeanette Fontaine, Linda Glover, Peter Infanger, Tara Warfield and Adam West will lend vocal and instrumental stylings.

Like Packwood, all are affiliated with the MSU music department. Kirkland and Webb, assistant professors; Banks and Fontaine, lecturers; Glover, office associate; Infanger, a teacher; and Warfield, an associate professor. Infanger also is director of music ministries at Starkville's First United Methodist Church.

Senior vocal music education major Katherine L. "Katie" Morgan of Arlington, Tenn., also will be featured.

The concert is made possible by grants from the J.W. Criss Foundation. For more information, contact MSU music department head Michael Brown at 662-325-3070 or mbrown@colled.msstate.edu.
