Donna M. Rogers

Donna M. Rogers has been named Mississippi State University’s new radiation safety officer (RSO).

Previously, Rogers worked as an industrial hygienist at MSU's Institute for Clean Energy Technology where she was responsible for safety of laboratory and pilot scale research activities, including high-hazard projects. During her 13 years at ICET, Rogers worked on several large-scale radioactive materials projects funded by the U.S. departments of Defense and of Energy.

From 1994-2000, she was coordinator of environmental and safety training programs at MSU where she was an EPA-approved asbestos trainer.

“We are pleased that Donna has joined the Office of Environmental Health and Safety in this very important role,” said EHS Director Michael Parsons.

“Donna's work experience in industrial hygiene and radiation safety will certainly prove to be an invaluable asset to the university,” he said.

As the university's RSO, Rogers is responsible for the daily management of a broad scope radioactive materials license administered by the Mississippi State Department of Health's Division of Radiological Health.

The RSO provides technical assistance to MSU committees, researchers and faculty who utilize radioactive materials in their work. The RSO is also responsible for training personnel who utilize radioactive materials, monitoring facilities and personnel where radioactive materials are utilized, radioactive waste disposal, and required recordkeeping for purchase, use and storage of radioactive materials.

Rogers holds a bachelor of science degree in biology education and a master of science degree in animal physiology from Mississippi State. She is a certified industrial hygienist and a certified hazardous materials manager, and has completed extensive training in radiation safety and health physics.
