Smith takes leadership role in AJHA
Glenn "Pete" Smith Jr.
Glenn "Pete" Smith Jr., an associate professor in the Department of Communication at Mississippi State University, was elected second vice president of the American Journalism Historians Association at the organization's conference in New Orleans in late September.
In this role, he will be responsible for planning AJHA's 2014 conference, and then become first vice president for 2015 and president in 2016.
Founded in 1981, the American Journalism Historians Association seeks to advance education and research in mass communication history. Members work to raise historical standards and ensure that all scholars and students recognize the vast importance of media history and apply this knowledge to the advancement of society.
Smith graduated from Mississippi State in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in communication. He earned a master's degree in communication from Auburn University, and is a doctoral graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi.
At MSU, he has taught Fundamentals of Public Speaking, Honors in Oral Communication, Introduction to Communication Theory, Introduction to Cinema and Introduction to Mass Media. His research interests include media history and criticism and gender communication.
