LEDGER: Earmark ban will threaten jobs
Writing in The Clarion-Ledger on Sunday, Mississippi State's Mark Keenum and other leaders of the state's public research universities discuss the impact that these institutions are making and the challenges they will face if federal funding is curtailed:
"The national recession has produced economic hardship throughout the public and private sectors, and institutions of higher learning have unquestionably felt its dramatic effects.
Mississippi's public research universities have met this budget crisis head-on, doing more with less while maintaining the focus on advancing higher education and research.
Still, we are concerned that recent federal proposals do not take into consideration the long-term benefits of our research programs."
