Shuttle service starts for Riley Center shows

Beginning this week, Mississippi State's Riley Center in Meridian will offer shuttle service between the Starkville campus and the historic performing arts venue.

University faculty, staff and students may use the service for a small fee. The shuttle will depart from a designated parking area at the north end of the Zacharias Village on the Starkville campus.

For patrons with performance tickets, the $10 roundtrip service begins Friday, March 4, with the performance of country music star Sara Evans. It will continue through the 2011 spring-summer series.

Persons interested in attending this and subsequent programs should telephone the MSU Riley Center at 601-696-2200 and request a shuttle ticket prior to ordering concert tickets. The request should be made at least two days in advance. The shuttle fee will be added to the total ticket cost.

"We're very excited about this project," said Dennis Sankovich, Riley Center executive director. "Our MSU Riley Center consistently has received excellent reviews as a premier venue, both by artists and patrons.

"We are eager to lessen the distance between our two campuses through this shuttle service and bring part of our Starkville family to downtown Meridian to experience the Riley Center," he added. "We hope this will be an ongoing tradition with our two campuses."

Funding for the project is provided by a grant from the Meridian-based Riley Foundation.

Shuttles of the University Transit Office will take patrons to the center's front door and be in the location to pick them up after the performances. A student intern from the communication department will be along to make certain all riders are aboard for the return trip to Starkville.

All shows in the 2011 spring-summer series will include the shuttle option. Six performances include a pre-concert reception, and patrons will arrive in time to attend each preliminary event.
