Aquila Theatre’s 'Fahrenheit 451' coming to the MSU Riley Center
Its themes are frighteningly relevant: censorship, knowledge, and how technology affects society.
Ray Bradbury’s science fiction classic, Fahrenheit 451, may have been published in 1953, but the ideas it wrestles with are debated even today. The Aquila Theatre’s touring production brings the book to the stage and to the MSU Riley Center in downtown Meridian on Nov. 10 for a 6 p.m. performance.
Bradbury’s tale of a future dystopian society is told from the perspective of Guy Montag, a fireman who struggles with his orders to burn books, which have been banned, as well as the homes of those who own the books.
The story takes place in an American town, sometime after the year 1990, a fictionalized time during which literature is under attack and technology allows media to control the marketplace of ideas.
This production of the play based on Bradbury’s novel is a part of the Big Read, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts, in partnership with Arts Midwest.
