Jefferson Starship opens MSU Riley Center’s Spring/Summer Series on Saturday

Classic rock favorite Jefferson Starship will kick off a very tuneful new season at the MSU Riley Center with a high-energy concert on Saturday [April 14] at 7:30 p.m.

The 2018 Spring/Summer Series will feature authentic American roots music, irresistible pop music from both the United States and Great Britain, perhaps the greatest and most beloved ballet of all time, a little country, a little soul, a little rock ’n’ roll, and a delightful family musical.

Jefferson Starship traces its roots all the way back to the 1960s acid-rock band Jefferson Airplane, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee that created such anthems as “Volunteers,” “White Rabbit,” and “Somebody to Love.” In the 1970s, the Airplane evolved into Jefferson Starship, which built a whole new catalog of pop rock hits, including “Miracles,” “Find Your Way Back,” “We Built This City,” and “Jane.”

Original member David Freiberg, co-writer and singer of “Jane,” still helps pilot the ship. Lead singer Cathy Richardson possesses both the vocal power and the stage presence to do legendary predecessor Grace Slick proud. And lead guitarist Jude Gold supercharges the Starship with his scorching solos.

The band’s website aptly sums up its mission: “Today’s Jefferson Starship remains dedicated to breathing new life into the living catalog of the Jefferson legacy, going to the edge, pushing the sonic boundaries and staying true to the original spirit of the music.”

Discounted season tickets for all or part of the Spring/Summer Series are still available, along with individual tickets for Jefferson Starship and all the other Spring/Summer shows. Starship tickets are $34 and $28.

All tickets are available at the MSU Riley Center Box Office, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets also can be purchased online at www.msurileycenter.com or by phone at the box office number, (601) 696.2200.
