Storyteller Garrison Keillor coming to MSU Riley Center next week
Garrison Keillor, the tall storyteller from small-town Minnesota, will weave his spell Sept. 28 during a 7:30 p.m. performance at the MSU Riley Center in downtown Meridian.
Keillor’s appearance will be the second show in the Riley Center’s 2017-2018 Fall/Winter Performing Arts Series. The former host of the long-running public radio show “A Prairie Home Companion” will take the stage solo, accompanied only by a stool and a microphone.
In his soothing baritone, he will recite a poem or two. Now and then he will lead the audience in singing a song that strikes his fancy. Mostly, though, he will simply tell stories — sometimes whimsical, often hilarious, occasionally pointed, always spellbinding.
“Through it all,” wrote reviewer Wendi Winters about a Washington, D.C.-area show, “the rapt audience was engrossed, enthralled and enchanted.”
