University updates automated external defibrillator (AED) use policy

Mississippi State recently updated its policy on automated external defibrillator (AED) use, OP 91.352: Employee Use of Automated External Defibrillators. Faculty and staff should be aware of several important points in this policy:

-- The medical director of the Longest Student Health Center is the medical control authority and should approve employees who have documented training by an approved training program in the use of an AED.

-- Documentation may be maintained by the medical director or his/her delegate.

-- Training expires concurrently with CPR certification.

-- Devices purchased must be approved by the medical director.

All AED devices should be registered at https://goo.gl/forms/Uokx8dLyQXvlQyR72.

For additional information about using an AED, visit www.redcross.org/take-a-class/aed/using-an-aed/aed-steps or www.redcrossrefresher.com/q/first-aid-cpr-and-aed/choices.

The policy is available online in its entirety at www.policies.msstate.edu/policypdfs/91352.pdf.
