Listening session set for Every Student Succeeds Act feedback

Mississippi State University and the Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District will host a joint listening session on the new federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) at Starkville High School on Oct. 3 at 6 p.m.

The session is part of the Mississippi Department of Education's (MDE) effort to collect feedback to align the state Board of Education's strategic plan with the requirements of ESSA, which is replacing No Child Left Behind legislation.

ESSA provides Mississippi with new opportunities for success for every child, according to officials. The state will use ESSA to support the state’s plan for high achievement for schools and students.

Local stakeholders -- families, educators, community members and others -- are invited to provide MDE with feedback on the strategic plan and ESSA implementation.

Registration is encouraged by clicking here, but it is not required.

Please contact Devon Brenner, the special assistant to the vice president for education initiatives at Mississippi State, at devon@research.msstate.edu for additional information.

Stakeholders are also invited to provide feedback directly to MDE at http://mdek12.org/SSE/essa.
