University furnishing employees with federal Form 1095-C

As required by the Affordable Care Act, Mississippi State is furnishing employees with a new "health coverage" tax form, called the Form 1095-C. The purpose of the 1095-C is to report your health care coverage for 2015. Although the Form 1095-C isn't required to file your taxes, it is important to keep this form with your tax records. Somewhat similar to the W-2, the 1095-C provides information about your health insurance coverage for 2015.

The university has released the printed Form 1095-C for distribution employees through their department. The distribution of Form 1095-C will reflect the process currently used for W-2 forms. In addition, employees will be able to view a copy of the Form 1095-C on the MyState portal, by signing on and clicking on the Banner tab showing "Tax Forms."

If an employee or spouse worked for any other employer during 2015, it is possible that they may receive more than one Form 1095-C. They should keep every 1095-C form received with their tax records. Please note: It is not necessary to send Form 1095-C in with your 2015 taxes.

Additional information about the 1095-C may be found on the IRS website at www.irs.gov/Affordable-Care-Act/Questions-and-Answers-about-Health-Care-Information-Forms-for-Individuals.

Employees may also contact the MSU Benefits Office 662-325-3713 with questions about Form 1095-C.
