Arbor Day celebration and tree planting coming up Friday

The Campus Tree Advisory Committee at Mississippi State will hold an Arbor Day celebration on Friday [Feb. 12] at 1:30 p.m. in the area between Magruder Hall and Harned Hall. The event is free and open to all.

Several trees will be planted during the celebration, including autumn blaze maple, American sycamore and burr oaks.

Last year, the university was recognized with a Tree Campus USA designation by the Arbor Day Foundation. The program honors annually two-year and four-year accredited colleges and universities that uphold five core standards, including evidence of a campus tree-care plan, dedicated funding for a campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance and sponsorship of student service-learning projects.
