'Rapunzel! Rapunzel!' brings family fun to MSU Riley Center

Delightful musical theater for the whole family will brighten the MSU Riley Center stage in downtown Meridian when Wally Jones and Casa Manana Theatre Presents "Rapunzel! Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale" on May 19, at 7 p.m.

The production, a Riley Center Family Show, features a book, music, and lyrics by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman. The story finds Princess Rapunzel banished to a tower by the evil enchantress Lady Za Za. Her only hope of rescue lies with handsome Sir Roderick and his hairdressing sidekick, Edgar, who are searching for true love and the perfect head of hair, respectively. Will the lovely, long-locked Rapunzel satisfy both quests? A lovable old dragon and a crazed gypsy woman add to the fun.

Children love this fast-paced romp, which features plenty of action and physical gags. The clever script also includes lots of jokes about American Idol and other bits of pop culture to keep adults amused as well. Will everyone live happily ever after? Come to the show and find out.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for students (age 12 or younger) at the MSU Riley Center Box Office, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.msurileycenter.com or by calling the box office at 601-696-2200.
