With each song they craft, singer-songwriters tell a story. “The Heart Behind the Music” tour also gives fans a rare glimpse into the stories that inspired the songs as the singers discuss the meanings behind their hits.

The tour swings through downtown Meridian this year, showcasing the talents of Deana Carter, Billy Dean, Collin Raye and Bryan White at the MSU Riley Center on July 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Carter’s career took off about 20 years ago with her Grammy-nominated hit, “Strawberry Wine.” She recently released her sixth studio album, entitled “Southern Way of Life.” Joining her is Dean, known for “Only Here for a Little While” and “If There Hadn’t Been You.” Three of his studio albums were certified gold and helped him rack up as many as 20 hit singles on the Billboard charts.

Country veteran Raye, known for his hits from the 1990s -- “Love, Me,” “Not That Different,” and “In This Life” among them -- recently made a successful detour into inspirational music. He is also a strong supporter -- and singer -- of traditional country music.

Taking the stage as well is White, who counts “I’m Not Supposed to Love You Anymore” and “So Much for Pretending” among his collection of number one country singles. He recently released his seventh album, “Shine.”

Tickets are $39 and $33 at the MSU Riley Center box office, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.msurileycenter.com or by calling the box office at 601-696-2200.
