Body Positive campaign kicks off Monday afternoon

The Department of Health Education and Wellness at Mississippi State University will host Body Positive campaign events today [April 14] from 4-7 p.m. at the Sanderson Center, Tuesday [April 15 at the Vet School from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and Wednesday [April 16] from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the grassy lawn in front of Subway and State Fountain Bakery.

The campaign highlights healthy choices and positive attitudes about self-image. At one station students can get rid of negative thoughts by shredding them in a shredder machine. Next, they obtain a new positive thought by stepping on a color-coded scale to learn what color they “weigh” and then draw a positive thought from that color bucket.

Another station will feature information about dressing for your body type. Students can learn what best flatters their natural body type. Also featured will be mannequins and information on proper attire for job interviews.

Also, a station will focus on body image in the media and advertising. A game has been created to see if students can guess what is being advertised by the photo. It will also have a session on photo altering in the media.
