Funeral mass set to remember Radványi
János Radványi, the legendary international security studies pioneer and Mississippi State University center director, will be remembered during a funeral mass on March 5. He died on Jan. 11 at the age of 93. Mass begins at 1 p.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 607 University Drive, in Starkville, and a reception follows at the university’s Hunter Henry Center.

University answers need for seed technology
Mississippi growers are relying on seed technologists to address issues related to their crops before the 2016 season begins. “As we approach another planting season, attention turns to variety selection, fertility, pesticides and overall crop care,” said Randy Vaughan, assistant director for Mississippi Foundation Seed Stocks, a unit of the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station. Mississippi State University is answering an industry need to renew educational efforts and address seed technology issues.

The center's restored Victorian theater will also host the world’s best dancers, one of the most powerful voices in country music, and the returns of both an intimate songwriters showcase and a beloved children’s character.

Maroon Institute for Writing Excellence sign-up open
The Maroon & Write QEP Office at Mississippi State will offer the Maroon Institute for Writing Excellence in May. The program is designed to introduce writing-to-learn strategies for use in the classroom. During this three-week interactive workshop, participants will receive guidance in revising syllabi and creating relevant writing assignments.

Men's Golf starts play Monday in the Southwestern Jones Invitational in Westlake Village, Calif., and then at the Tiger Invitational in Opelika, Ala., on Sunday... Baseball hosts Alcorn State on Tuesday at 6 p.m., and then travels to Los Angeles to begin play in the Dodger Stadium Classic on Friday... Women's Basketball sees the start of the SEC Tournament on Wednesday in Jacksonville, Fla., with game times to be determined... Men's Basketball travels to Oxford on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. tipoff against Ole Miss, and then hosts Auburn at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday... Party marks 138th birthday of Mississippi State
Mississippi State University will commemorate the anniversary of its land-grant founding with a Monday birthday party. Free and open to all, the MSU Alumni Association-coordinated campus celebration will take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the day following the anniversary of the Feb. 28, 1878 official founding. The party, presented by Renasant Bank, will be held in the Dawg House at Colvard Student Union.
CASE III honors university with ‘Grand’ awards
Mississippi State University recently garnered five awards, including two first place honors, in this year’s Council for Advancement and Support of Education competition for District III. MSU competed against 125 higher education institutions in nine southeastern states to bring home “Grand” awards in Magazine Improvement and in the Photography Series category.
Bourgeois joins Italian Art Society board
The leader of Mississippi State’s art department is the newly elected secretary of the Italian Art Society. Associate professor Angi Elsea Bourgeois, currently serving as interim department head, recently began a two-year term on the international scholarly organization’s board of directors. Bourgeois said she is honored to be a part of “a vital and rigorous scholarly organization that supports the creation of new knowledge about human creative endeavors.” Founded in 1987, IAS is dedicated to the study of Italian art and architecture from prehistory to the present.
Assistant VP for enrollment forums continue
The search committee for the assistant vice president for enrollment invites all Mississippi State faculty, staff and administrators to attend candidate seminars that started last week in Colvard Student Union's Fowlkes Auditorium. The three remaining sessions will be livestreamed online, and the first session is available for replay.
