Senior Homeland Security official visiting Tuesday
A senior official from the federal agency charged with ensuring a homeland that is safe, secure and resilient against terrorism and other hazards will visit Mississippi State this Tuesday. Peter Fonash, chief technology officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) cybersecurity and communications organization, will meet with faculty and students, tour several of the university's research labs, and also present a public lecture.

Exhibit features future housing strategies
Mississippi State's School of Architecture is showcasing winning entries from the d3 Housing Tomorrow Design Competition through Friday in the university's Giles Hall Gallery. MSU assistant professor Alexis Gregory is exhibition curator, along with Gregory Marinic, director of interior architecture and assistant professor of architecture in the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture at the University of Houston.

Chemistry department golf tournament Friday
An public golf tournament this Friday at Mississippi State will benefit undergraduate scholarships in the university's chemistry department. One of many activities surrounding the annual Super Bulldog Weekend, the four-person scramble will begin with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start at the MSU Golf Course, located approximately three miles east of campus on Hwy. 182.

Annual 4-H golf classic moves to new venue
The 13th-annual Mississippi 4-H Golf Classic will be at the Lake Caroline Golf Course in Madison on May 22. The annual golf classic is a fundraiser for the Mississippi 4-H youth development program, part of the Mississippi State University Extension Service. Development officer Morris Houston said the event was moved to make it more convenient and accessible for participants.

Hollender joins men's basketball staff
Rick Ray moved one step closer to filling his staff openings last Monday when he announced the hiring of assistant Chris Hollender. The 35-year-old Hollender comes to Mississippi State after spending the past four years in the same capacity at Evansville, his alma mater.

With the hiring of Adam Gordon last Tuesday, Rick Ray's staff at Mississippi State is now intact. Gordon, who spent the past season on B.J. Hill's staff at Northern Colorado, will have the title of director of operations.

Softball plays Southern Miss in Hattiesburg on Tuesday at 6 p.m., and then hosts Kentucky in a three-game home series beginning Friday at 5 p.m. Saturday's game at noon will be televised by ESPNU... Baseball travels to Trustmark Park in Pearl for a 6:30 p.m. game against Ole Miss on Tuesday, which will be broadcast by CSS-TV, and then hosts Tennessee for Super Bulldog Weekend with games on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. (ESPNU), Friday at 6:30 p.m., and Saturday at 1 p.m.... Super Bulldog Weekend kicks off Thursday
The Grammy award-winning duo Sugarland headlines Mississippi State University's upcoming 26th annual Super Bulldog Weekend. Country music singer-songwriters Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush take the stage at Davis Wade Stadium immediately following the Maroon-White Game, which begins at 5 p.m. Saturday. Sponsored by Regions Bank, Super Bulldog Weekend also involves an array of traditional spring homecoming events for Bulldog fans.
Dunaway only second to receive university honor
In recognition of his contributions to student well-being at Mississippi State, Greg Dunaway is receiving the Dean of Students Award of Excellence. He becomes only the second recipient of the honor since its inception in 2007, said Thomas Bourgeois, dean of students.
Coble among first SEC faculty honorees
W.L. Giles Distinguished Professor Keith H. Coble of Mississippi State's agricultural economics department is receiving the Southeastern Conference's 2012 Faculty Achievement Award. The SEC honor recognizes university professors for achievement in research, scholarship and service.
Walters earns national award for education
A member of Mississippi State University's chemical engineering faculty will be honored this summer by a national engineering education organization. Keisha B. Walters, an associate professor, will receive the Raymond W. Fahien Award from the American Society for Engineering Education's Chemical Engineering Division at its June conference in San Antonio, Texas. The award is given annually to recognize early-career faculty who have shown evidence of vision and contribution to education in the field.
