Export compliance training, inspection this week
Mississippi State University will host a leading security consultant for two days of export compliance training, auditing and an inspection this week. Charles "Chip" Palmer, the vice president for training and business development of Maryland-based Export Compliance Solutions LLC (ECS), will be on campus Tuesday and Wednesday to provide important training for MSU faculty and staff working on or managing contracts that involve Export Administrations Regulations (EAR) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Ragtime Jazz Festival to 'razzle-dazzle' campus
Dynamic musical showmanship and toe-tapping entertainment again are on the schedule for the sixth annual Charles Templeton Ragtime Jazz Festival at Mississippi State. Taking place on the university campus Friday and Saturday, the major spring event includes evening concerts in Lee Hall's Bettersworth Auditorium, along with daytime sessions and tours at the Templeton Music Museum in Mitchell Memorial Library.

Nominations are being accepted for professional and support staff employees who work at least half-time, have been employed at Mississippi State University for a minimum of three years, and represent the nomination criteria for the award. Softball plays Mississippi Valley State in Itta Bena on Wednesday at 5 p.m., and then hosts Alabama in a weekend series beginning Friday at 7 p.m.... Facilities Management shares survey results
Mississippi State University's Facilities Management team reports that 1,076 participants provided feedback for its 2011 annual survey -- a noteworthy increase from the 838 people who took part in the 2010 survey. "The annual survey is one of the tools we use to maximize efficiency and provide a superior customer service experience, and we are very pleased that more faculty and staff were willing to participate and let us know how we are doing," said Amy Tuck, executive director of Campus Operations.
Kardos wins top state fiction honor
The co-director of Mississippi State University's creative writing program is receiving a top honor from the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters. Michael Kardos, an assistant professor of English at the university, is the 2012 winner of the organization's annual award in fiction.
Bailey named secretary of student affairs group
Mississippi State's Ann Bailey is the newly elected secretary of the Southern Association for College Student Affairs Foundation Board. The university's housing and residence life director, she recently was elected to a two-year term with the independent organization representing higher education practitioners, educators and students in the field.
IHL honors Lawrence for diversity efforts
Mark Lawrence, associate dean and professor at Mississippi State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, has been honored for his efforts to increase diversity within the veterinary profession. The Mississippi Board of Trustees of the State Institutions of Higher Learning recently presented Lawrence with the Black History Month Educator of the Year award for MSU's Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine.
